Drop Shotting for Bluegills?
Have you all ever tried a Drop Shot Rig for Bluegill fishing? I went fishing at my Grandparents pond tonight. The Bass weren’t biting particularly well, although I kept getting hit while using a Drop Shot Rig. I kept missing them, so I figured they were small Bass playing with it. Finally, I got a solid hook set on what I thought would be a small Bass, but it was a Bluegill. I then decided to cut the worm that I was using in half, to see if I couldn’t catch some Bluegills due to the Bass not wanting to bite. Long story short, I caught more Bluegills on it than I have ever caught on anything else, some really big ones as well. To add a little more excitement to my night, I seen two 10+ pound Catfish feeding on small Bluegills and minnows, right as the sun was setting. I managed to get one of them to hit the Drop Shot as well. He put my medium action spinning setup to the test, but I did get him in.
Absolutely, just caught tons of them last week on a dropshot rig, just need to downsize you tackle. Worked great, my wife & I had a blast catching bluegills and sunfish in Lake Hemet here in So. Cal. We found a spawning bed that was loaded with them, slayed them using cut up nightcrawlers on a dropshot rig.

Fishing Reports on Major Texas Lakes
Black bass are fair on buzz-baits early in morning, and later switching to drop shot rigs, Carolina rigs and spinnerbaits. Lake Texoma water is off color and 84 to 88 degrees. The lake is 1.04′ low. Crappie fishing is fair on live minnows and jigs in brush piles and around bridges and columns. The striped bass are good on shad, slabs and trolling with down-riggers. Catfish are fair/good on cut bait and live shad.
The Lake is 3.62′ low, with Black bass being fair on red-bug plastic worms. Toledo Bend Lake water is stained and at 84 degrees. The striped bass fishing is fair using live minnows and silver-striper jigs. The white bass fishing is good on spoons in the river. Crappie are fair/good on live minnows at night. Bream fishing is good on crickets or night-crawlers. Channel and blue catfish are showing good on trot-lines baited with live bait, stink-bait, livers, and hearts in 30 feet. Yellow catfish are slow at this time.
The lake is 2.92′ low. The Lake Sam Rayburn water is lightly stained and at 84 degrees. Largemouth bass are good on live minnows and dark colored soft plastic worms. The white bass are fair on silver/gold spoons. Crappie fishing is good on live minnows and blue tube-jigs over baited holes in 20 to 25 feet of water. Bream are fair/good on night-crawlers. Catfish are very good on trot-lines baited with live bait or cut bait.
Largemouth bass are fair with chartreuse/watermelon Carolina soft plastics and spinner-baits. Lake Conroe water is fairly clear and 0.26′ below pool. Striped bass fishing is fair on live minnows. Crappie fishing is fair on live minnows over brush piles. Catfish are good on stink-bait, chicken-livers and shrimp.
